Our Teachers and Tutors

The teachers and other professionals are the heart of the Centre Academy Schools. Our teachers are dedicated professionals who have chosen to work with students who face various learning challenges. This fundamental decision informs all their activities and governs all they do.

Special needs teaching demands certain gifts and abilities beyond what may be required in the mainstream school. Our teachers have, of course, advanced and very specific specialist qualifications. Their knowledge and experience are everywhere in evidence, from their command of small group, subject-specific instructional techniques to their multi-sensory approaches to learning. But perhaps most important is their ability to have children connect with them—a reflection of their highly supportive, nurturing and patient approach to every aspect of a student’s education.

The efforts of our teaching staff are complemented by a coterie of specialists: speech and language; occupational therapy; reading; dyslexia; counselling. Working with the subject-specific teachers, our specialists provide one-to-one instruction for virtually all of our students, initiatives that support all the work that goes on in the classroom while also helping us understand and cater to the various learning styles that our students represent. In so doing, our specialists help students evolve strategies to compensate for any weaknesses and they also are instrumental in helping students maximise their various abilities.
